To buy before a breakout, I think the most important clue is to see the ws and also when it's stagnant and not moving. Then all of a sudden, the buyers came in to whack up the shares which will give you a clue that the stock is almost ready as it attracted buyers. The chart setup must be at the bottom and look for the collections stacking nicely then give it a try. 8/10 times, it should breakout further and materialized.
